The Role

SBC Photographers are an integral part of a successful summer. Your role will be to capture first-hand the full summer school and college experience and bring it to life for our parents through our blogs which are updated daily. Your images will also be used across our marketing channels to promote future summer experiences to new families.

As a photographer, you’ll take photos in a non-obtrusive manner to capture the natural essence of the summer experience but must also possess the ability to engage with students and make them feel at ease to secure specific shots outlined in our photography brief and shot list.

The Site
The Oxford-based photographer will be working over our Oxford College and Camp Dragon sites.
 
Camp Dragon is located in beautiful and leafy North Oxford, just a short walk from the city centre, Jericho and beautiful university parks. A large school with excellent facilities that still manages to have a small, homely feel Camp Dragon gives our staff and students 22 acres to play with and be able to enjoy beautiful spacious facilities without sacrificing a city location.
Designed by language learning experts and qualified play workers, our summer camp provides an immersive learning experience for children aged 8 – 12 from around the world.  Explore a range of themes through interactive lessons, inspiring workshops, and amazing activities.  With up to 80 young learners Camp Dragon is a truly unique camp encouraging young people to discover, develop, and dare.
 
SBC Oxford College students undertake academic courses, exploring their chosen subject through a series of engaging lectures, tutorials, and industry workshops. Their academic programme sits next to their social programme allowing them to explore Oxford, take part in college events, wellbeing activities and the greatly enjoyed excursion to London.
Appealing to ambitious students wishing to prepare for future success and to gain an authentic taste of the studying at the prestigious University of Oxford, SBC at Oxford College is based over several Oxford Colleges. Students on the college programme are 15-17 and the capacity is 90 students over both sites each week.

Remuneration: Paid weekly, one week in arrears. The weekly rate received forPhotographers is £600 PLUS any accrued holiday to be paid at the end of contract)*  

Photography Responsibilities

  • Capture high-quality images that showcase the student experience, including academic sessions, activities, excursions, and campus life.
  • Follow a daily photography brief to ensure key moments are documented for use in blogs, social media, and future marketing materials.
  • Engage with students to capture natural and engaging images while ensuring they feel comfortable.
  • Upload, organise, and edit images daily using a shared OneDrive folder.
  • Work closely with the content creator/ Head of Marketing to provide images that align with our marketing objectives.
  • Be adaptable and proactive in responding to changes in schedule, weather conditions, and student dynamics.
  • Ensure all students are represented in the photography, including capturing group shots.
  • Maintain and manage your own photography equipment, ensuring it is in good working order.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of students in your care
  • Attend on-site safeguarding training during induction week
  • Carry out SBC’s safeguarding policy and ensuring others do the same.
  • Develop positive relationships with students, earning their trust whilst maintaining proper professional boundaries,
    • E.g. Not sharing personal information such as contact details or social media with students.
  • Listen to students and being vigilant regarding the potential indicators of abuse.
  • Report any potential concerns to the school's Designated Safeguarding Officer

About You

SBC PERSON SPECIFICATION

All members of staff employed by SBC will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. There must be a professional interest in working with young people and particularly international children. Safety and welfare of the students is of paramount importance at SBC and a practical enforcing of this belief should be a quality exhibited by all staff.

We look for staff who are:

  • Approachable & empathic to the needs of students
  • Enthusiastic & engaging
  • Diplomatic, responsible & motivated
  • Flexible within the summer school environment

We expect all SBC staff to be able to communicate effectively with our students, using an appropriate level of language to suit the group. SBC staff must demonstrate patience, empathy and an emotional awareness towards students both individually and in within a group setting. We expect all staff to take control of students and to manage discipline and behavioural issues in a firm, positive and constructive manner.

 

Essential

•             Experience in leading or coaching groups of children in a professional capacity

•             Experience of, and genuine enjoyment of working with children

•             Strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, flexibility

•             Ability to take control of and lead a group of children on activities and during excursions

Photography Experience 

 

Desirable

•          Qualifications and experience in leading young people in either tennis, dance, performing arts, music or arts & crafts

•             First Aid/Lifeguard qualification

•             Experience and qualifications in coaching other sport

•             Experience of residential international boarding
