About The Role

SBC Course Leaders are responsible for the day to day running of our summer schools and colleges. Course Leaders need to have exceptional leadership and organisational skills and must have a full understanding of the challenges of running a residential international summer school. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt management styles to effectively support staff and students with all aspects of summer school life

Main duties of the Course Leader:  

  • Take overall responsibility for all aspects of the summer school
  • Be responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of students and staff at all times
  • Work closely and on an on-going daily basis to support and lead the other SBC managers.
  • Have a close working relationship with the SBC Roaming Managers and the SBC Head Office, communicating regularly so they are kept informed of all goings on at the school
  • Ensure the students are supervised at all times and the daily schedule runs efficiently
  • Maintain the good reputation of Summer Boarding Courses Ltd and the host venue
  • Communicate with students and parents both over the phone and face-to-face in a friendly and professional manner, handling any enquiries and requests efficiently
  • Be an approachable and positive presence, engaging with students and staff in all areas.

About You

All members of staff employed by SBC will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. There must be a professional interest in working with young people and particularly international children. Safety and welfare of the students is of paramount importance at SBC and a practical enforcing of this belief should be a quality exhibited by all staff.

We look for staff who are:

  • Enthusiastic & engaging
  • Diplomatic, responsible & motivated
  • Flexible within the summer school environment

Although Course Leaders are not required to teach the English language lessons, we do expect them to be able to communicate effectively with our students, using an appropriate level of language to suit the group. Course Leaders must demonstrate patience, empathy and an emotional awareness towards students both individually and in within a group setting. We expect Course Leaders to take control of students and to manage discipline and behavioural issues in a firm, positive and constructive manner.

Experience Required
 
Essential
  • Experience of, and genuine enjoyment of working with young people
  • Experience of managing a staff team
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, flexibility
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Previous residential summer school experience
  • Experience of managing welfare and behavioural issues effectively
Desirable
  • Experience of residential international summer schools
  • Experience of the UK boarding environment
  • Experience of working within the education sector

SHOULD YOU BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Any gaps in your CV will be enquired about and must be explained satisfactorily
  • You will have to prove your Right to Work in the UK
  • You will provide the details of two recent and relevant referees who we will contact and specifically ask about your suitability to work with children and any concerns.
  • You will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS), and equivalent if you live, or have lived, outside of the UK
  • You will be asked to sign the Children’s Act 1989 declaration safeguarding the welfare of children, and state that you have no known reason why you cannot work with children
  • Official identification and certificates will be required for our records
