About The Role

Earlscliffe Medicine Teachers are essential to delivering high-quality, specialized instruction in our bespoke medicine courses, designed for young people passionate about exploring the medical field. These teachers bring both a strong foundation in medicine and experience in teaching diverse, mixed mother-tongue classes, where students may have varying levels of language proficiency. With expertise in medical topics and an engaging, professional approach, Earlscliffe teachers inspire students both in and out of the classroom, ensuring a fulfilling and memorable experience that deepens students' interest and knowledge in medicine.

Medicine Teachers are responsible to the Director of Studies

Remuneration: Paid weekly, one week in arrears. The weekly rate received for Teachers is £725 PLUS any accrued holiday to be paid at the end of contract)* Food and accommodation are included for all residential SBC staff.

Working Hours: A normal working week for Teachers will consist of up to 48 hours per week over six working days.

ABOUT EARLSCLIFFE

Located less than an hour from London on the train Folkestone is a beautiful coastal town with an exciting arts scene. Since 2002, Earlscliffe has been running courses for young people from all over the world to come together to learn English in Kent, the garden of England and gain a better understanding of each other’s cultures.

An open campus in Folkestones historic West End with a mixture of beautiful traditional and newly refurbished boarding houses and classrooms Earlscliffe is ideally placed within a five minute walk of beautiful pebble beaches.

Our courses at Earlscliffe strike the  balance between serious study, fun activities and ‘added value’. We focus on delivering high-quality programmes in only one school where we have full control of all aspects of the course. Basing our curriculum on the 21st century learning skills of collaboration, critical thinking, communication and creativity, our students are motivated and stimulated not only by the course content but its relevance to their generation’s aims and concerns.

General Duties: 

  • Be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of students in your care
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety measures (including COVID safety measures, risk assessments and other policies and procedures)
  • Help ensure that the students do not breach the rules of the school
  • Always engage with the students in a friendly but professional manner
  • Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, in an emergency situation
  • Provide feedback on your experiences during & also at the end of summer
  • Help ensure that the students do not breach the rules of the school
Teaching Duties
  • Become thoroughly acquainted with the Earlscliffe medicine syllabus, materials, and resources during the induction period to ensure a high standard of course delivery.
  • Deliver engaging lessons using the Earlscliffe medicine syllabus, incorporating relevant materials that enhance students' understanding of medical concepts.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that encourages the development of essential 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, relevant to the field of medicine.
  • Assign coursework or projects as outlined in the Earlscliffe medicine syllabus to deepen students’ understanding of key topics.
  • Address the individual needs of each student to maximize their benefit from the medicine course and support their learning journey.
  • Continuously assess student progress, providing meaningful feedback on assignments to support their development and mastery of course material.
  • Maintain organized administrative records, including class lists, attendance registers, records of work, and prepare certificates and reports as required.
  • Effectively manage classroom behavior, ensuring all students actively participate and engage with the material.
  • Attend morning meetings with the Director of Studies and any additional meetings requested by summer school management.
  • Develop detailed lesson plans for observed sessions, reflect on the outcomes of these observations, and attend feedback sessions with the Director of Studies to discuss actionable improvements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

About You

All members of staff employed by Earlscliffe will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. There must be a professional interest in working with young people and particularly international children. Safety and welfare of the students is of paramount importance at Earlscliffe and a practical enforcing of this belief should be a quality exhibited by all staff.

Experience Required

Essential

  • A completed undergraduate degree in any subject
  • CELTA, Trinity Cert., or equivalent
Desirable
  • Experience of residential international summer schools
  • Experience of the UK boarding environment
  • Experience of working within the education sector

As a small and growing office we are expanding year on year and where possible we aim to recruit from our short term summer staff before seeking external candidates. A large percentage of our Head Office staff worked at our summer sites before joining us for their full-time careers. As a part of Dukes Education we also have links to many other schools which occasionally offer up employment opportunities to our staff.

Whilst international travel restrictions have been in place, we have worked closely with a number of boarding schools to provide holiday courses for their students who have been unable to return home. We look forward to utilising this experience to provide a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience for all of our students and staff in the coming year.

*Please note that given the short-term nature of these contracts at SBC and the duty of care we have to our students, holiday will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances and must be requested at least one month prior to taking leave. At the end of your contract, you will receive a payment for any holiday you are owed.
